Spring 2005 Topic: Probability with Applications in Biology
This module focuses on applications of probability theory ranging from
gambling to genetics. Topics include the Monte Hall problem, birthday
pairings, counting principles, conditional probability and independence,
Bayes Rule, random variables and their distributions, Gambler's Ruin
problem, random walks, Markov chains, and branching processes. Concepts
are introduced with lots of examples and students work though challenging
problems in class.
